The Jacksonville Soldiers Orphan School started as the Fairview Female Seminary,
established in 1845 and operated until 1857.

Then from 1865-69 it operated as a school for the the orphans (or half-orphans) of Civil War soldiers.
The photo is noted as the Fairview Female Seminary which later became the Jacksonville Soldiers' Orphan School.

Jacksonville was named for ex-president Andrew Jackson.
